To determine the threshold chloride levels for reinforcement corrosion in terms of probabilities, we selected outwardly sound parts from marine structures that had been in service for 32 and 58 years. Particular attention was paid to the relationship between chloride content and onset of reinforcement corrosion. It could be seen that the logarithmic normal distribution explains the scatter of chloride content data by dividing the exposure into: in the water (tidal or underwater zone) and in the air (splash or on-shore zone).
