Protective coatings - organic, inorganic and petrolatum linings - have been applied to the steel portions at atmospheric and splash zones, while cathodic protection has been applied to the steel portions below mean low water level. To protect corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete -slabs and beams - under marine environments, cathodic protection has quite recently been applied.
