A hot-dip coated stainless steel sheet has been newly developed as a material with excellent corrosion resistance in a severe marine environment. From the results of exposure test in this environment, inducing red-rusting to a type 304 bare stainless steel sheet, it was concluded that an Al coated type 430 stainless steel sheet has kept the initial surface appearance and had no red-rust even on the bare surface of base steel at cut edges and cross-scribes. This was confirmed by electrochemical investigation that a sacrificial corrosion of the Al coating and alloy layer protected effectively the bare surface of base stainless steel.
