The materials used in pultrusion included rovings, dry preformed fibers. TS prepreg, fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, and commingled carbon fibers and thermoplastic filaments. Epoxy resin formulated for pultusion was used. The operating parameters and tooling designs are the main avenues in establishing a successful operating system. The process and the available materials were studied to determine applicability and limitations to produce aircraft structures. NDI was used for porosity and delamination detection, photomicrography for visual inspection of representative sections, and acid digestion for quantitative analysis.
