This paper presents details of the modal test performed on the fixed offshore platform lagogas 4 located in Maracaibo Lake, Venezuela. A geometrical description of the platform, instrumentation, excitation techniques and general testing method are described. Typical results corresponding to ambient, impact and impulse excitation are presented along with a comparison between the three testing methods for large offshore structures. Information presented here includes time records, autopower spectra, frequency response functions, modal frequencies and damping factors. Recommendations are made for modal testing of large offshore structures.
