A paper describing the concept of Semi Continuously Variable Transmissions, which incorporate variators in parallel with gearsets such that the loadings on the variator are greatly reduced, thereby facilitating high inputs. The paper also describes various methods of steplessly abutting successive variable modes to provide virtually limitless ratio spreads, full power being maintained during mode transitions without hot shifts.
