Electric vehicles using battery storage have many potential advantrages. However, their traditional disadvantages of limited range and poor performance have prevented them from competing with internal combustion engined vehicles. The design of a modern electric vehicle is discussed in this paper. To achieve a good range and performance sodium sulphur batteries would need to replace traditional lead acid batteries and the weight of the vehicle would need to be kept low by the use of modern composites for all the structural components. Such a vehicle would be quiet, efficient in terms of fossil fuel energy usage and would eliminate pollution on roadways and reduce noise.
