The dynamic and fuel economic characteristics are important standards for evaluating automobile. Automobile is a kind of highly efficient transportation means, and the transportation efficiency is decided by dynamic characteristic of automobile to a geart extent, while fuel economic characteristic takes an main effect on transportation cost. A series of initial step methods which deal with optimal design of automobile transmission system are presented in this paper. First of all, the rear-axle gear ratio ie is selected, and the fuel economic and dynamic characteristics are synthetically considered. The two contradictory objective functions are well harmonized so as to make the result tally with the actual situation. Then, based on approximating the ideal state the gear ratios are obtained.
