The next step forward in the development of electronic engine control has been the incorporation of electronic throttle (ET) within the System. One prime area of activity on this subject is in the safe and reliable actuation of the throttle by means other than the current mechanical linkage systems in order that electronic control may be introduced. A number of motor/gearbox applications have evolved, some of which are in use today. This paper will describe the development of a simple acutating system for this purpose, namely a limited angle torque motor with associated position sensing.
