Technopolymer Structures, TPS, often known as Class Mat Thermoplastics, GMT, have been available for more than ten years, but their unique combination of easy processing, excellent physical properties and reasonable cost has until recently remained largely undiscovered by the European Automotive Industry. This paper reviews the techniques for manufacturing and processing TPS before considering current and future uses for the materials. Now that powerful marketing forces are promoting the potential advantages of incorproating TPS into vehicle component design it is anticipated that there will be an explosion of applications in the Automotive Industry.
