Electronic devices aimed at the automotive industry are now available which provide a reliable and efficient means of transferring data around various vehicle systems. This paper briefly examines the needs of an automotive network and the techniques that are avaiable for network analysis. It is essential that any proposed communication network is capable of transmitting the data with sufficient speed and accuracy. To this end the paper investigates the use of simulation as an analysis tool, and the possibilities of optimisation of the network under certain conditions.
