Automatic assembly enables a high degree of consistency to be achieved. Labour content is reduced and operators which are required, can be unskilled. The assembly equipment control system can be engineered to monitor machine performance and record the results. Statistical analysis by the computer control system can then detect any untoward trends and initiate corrective action. Automatic assembly is a means of not only achieving cost savings but also of producing much more consistent products. Monitoring, statistical analysis and recording of the assembly parameters provides a means of detecting unfavourable trends.
