A small-scale laboratory test procedure involving an Amsler wear testing machine has been developed and used to evaluate wear reduction and retention of lubricants used to lubricate wheels and rails in curves. In this test, the durability of a calcium soap base grease containing small additions of natural graphite is not enhanced by increasing the graphite content.
