Progress in electronics is providing countless technological improvements in vehicular performance and functions. Production applications of new technology such as artificial intelligence and communications require a control strategy for efficient co-ordination of functions of the engine, drivetrain, brake, steering, and suspension control subsystems. This paper decribes an overview of a totally integrated vehicle electronic control system which gives efficient co-ordinated actions between these subsystems. The principles of the system are based on fuzzy control and two-degrees-of-freedom control strategies. Each subsystem has two oservers which control the servo and actuators according to the vehicle dynamics. Application of the system allows the driver to experience a higher level of performance and a marked improvement in handling quality and ride comfort.
