This paper introduces the process of producing molds or other articles by means of electrodepositing nickel to specified thicknesses on patterns or mandrels, removing the deposited nickel and using it in the required application. Properties of the electroformed nickel are discussed and compared to some of the other materials which are used in the manufacture of non-metallic automotive components. The areas where electroformed nickel might be applicable are discussed along with guidelines for the design and fabrication of electroforming mandrels.
