Preforming has been around a long time. It provided and continues to provide a means to incorporate glass roving into specific shapes for low volume applications. Today, preforming is receiving significant attention. As other faster developing reinforced processes such as SMC do not satisfy the new high performance structural automotive applications. This paper will examine the potential of performing to satisfy these new applications as well as the expected advantages of this process. Various preforming methods and their limitations will also be discussed.
