This paper analyses the Integrated Servo Actuator (ISA) used in the Fly By Wire (FBW) system of a F-16 aircraft from the functional and reliability point of view. First a circuit diagram of the hydraulic system of the ISA has been developed to display the functional relationship between its components. The reliability block diagram of the ISA has been then developed. The overall failure rate of the ISA has been computed using component failure rates based on NASA and AFFDL studies. Based on this analysis it is possible to compute the overall reliability of a servo actuator, identify its critical components and use it to enhance the overall reliability of the Flight Control System (FCS).
