Moving a company forward to meet the challenges of a changing and dynamic market requires a considerable amount of self-evaluation if long term success is to be guaranteed. There is no simple solution. Much to the disappointment of some pursists, the true challenge for the U.S. auto industry is in balancing the long term with the all important short term measures of performance. Rockwell Automotive has embarked upon this process of change, adopting a company wide strategy for Total Quality Control. The foundation for this strategy places as much emphasis on strategic planning and organizational climate as it does on such currently popular techniques as QFD, Taguchi Methods, SPC and the Japanese.
