Dunlop Aviation Division started investing in Computer Aided Engineering techniques in 1979. A strategy study undertaken by the CAE Division of the PA Consulting Group in 1986, reviewed the existing systems and considered the implications of an integrated approach to CAE. This study addressed not only the selection of a new design system, but also the organisational environment in which it was to operate. The changes implemented brought together the key design and production engineering functions and permitted closer co-operation through team and project working. This paper describes the selection, implementation and development of the new CAE system.
