A mathematical model is developed to predict the unsteady aerodynamics of a flat plate airfoil executing harmonic torsional motion in an incompressible laminar flow at moderate values of the Reynolds numbers. The unsteady viscous flow is assumed to be a small perturbation to the steady viscous flow described by the Navier-Stokes equations. Solution for both the steady and the unsteady viscou flow fields are obtained by developing a locllly analytical solution. This model is then utilized to demonstrate the effects of Reynolds number, mean flow incidence angle, and reduced frequency on the complex unsteady airfoil surface pressure distributions as well as airfoil stability.
