Beginning this year, Freightliner Corporation introduced an anti-lock braking system - the Freightliner/WABCO ABS - as an option on its Class VIII vehicles. This paper presents the technical aspects of the engineering development and testing which preceded the release of this electro-mechanical system. It explains how this modified individual wheel control anti-lock braking system operates and describes the system's technical features and performance characteristics. Also discussed is the development and testing which proved the reliability and durability of this system.
