In order to improve the performance of MPD thruster in the range of specific impulse near and above 1000 s, which corresponds to the electrothermal/electromagnetic hybrid mode of operation, the anode configuration was modified by changing axial length of metal anode and insulator nozzle, and anode segments in azimuthal direction as experimental parameters. The anode of 5 % axial length of the nozzle limited in the upstream region and 16 segments resulted in a drastic improvement of thrust efficiency, increase from 15 % to 25 % at 1000 s specific impulse.
