The Automotive Stirling Engine (ASE) program has recently advanced its development activities from the first generation Mod I and Upgraded Mod I engines to the production oriented second generation Mod II engine. At the same time, expanded applications for the Stirling engine are being actively pursued along with a continuation of the industry involvement which began in 1984 with the industry Test and Evaluation Program. The result of this effort is the Stirling-Powered Van Program, a multi-year, multi-phase program directed towards evaluating, under realistic conditions, the potential of Stirling-powered Air Force vans. In addition to the Air Force, several industry participants are involved in the SPVP; Deere a. Company, Purolator Courier, and the American Trucking Association. This effort is part of the Government and Industry Participation Program (GIPP) and is funded by NASA's Technology Utilization (TU) Division.
