This paper introduces the application of ATM switching techniques in the communication of netted-radar systems. By analyzing the requirements for communication of a netted-radar system based on central processing station, it presents an ATM switch architecture similar to the client-server model. The ATM is considered to be the base of the broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN), while ATM switching technique is the key content of ATM. It is shown in the paper that ATM switches are useful not only for the civil communication traffic but also for military one such as the switching of data, video and audio signal involved in the tracking of tight multiple targets in a netted-radar system under the condition of jamming. The paper analyzes the data switching of ATM switches in a netted-radar system. And the probability mass functions of queue lengths for different loads offered to the output-buffered ATM switch which is used in a netted-radar system are measured and evaluated in three typical communication surroundings with the help of computer simulation. We also look forward to the further uses of ATM switching techniques in the communication of netted-radar systems.
