One of the critical factors which limits the clutter and jammer suppression performance of the adaptive phased array radar is the near-field scattering effects from the antenna-aircraft interactions. In this paper, we present the impact of near-field scattering on space-time adaptive processing performance by modeling the BAC 1-11 aircraft and the multichannel airborne radar measurements array using the geometric theory of diffraction numerical code. We present results for a beam scanned over the wing where the near-field scattering effects are dominant.
