Under contract to the European Space Agency, Matra Marconi Space (UK) Ltd. have undertaken the study and breadboard development of a multiple bit rate spacecraft transponder at Ka-band frequencies for a craft in low Earth orbit working to the proposed Data Relay Satellite System. It is proposed to use numerically controlled oscillators in the receiver and in the transmit frequency generator.
