Describes how specifications for the INTELSAT VI spacecraft bus were generated. In early 1980, a conceptual design was developed to verify the feasibility of implementing the INTELSAT VI mission requirements within the lift-off mass and volume constraints of the launch vehicles being considered. A second goal was to generate specifications that were not only realistic, but also more general than those applicable solely to the baseline design.
