To prepare the US Space Shuttle for flight within a specified processing time it is essential to evaluate and fine-tune the inspection programs and identify all nonconformances. The Space Shuttle airframe inspection trend analysis report was developed to analyze the findings of the V30 OMRSD File III airframe inspection. This evaluation ensures an optimal performance frequency and an optimal inspection effectiveness. The nonconformance reports initiated as a result of the airframe inspections were analyzed by flight cycle, inspection requirements, problem cause, and Orbiter zone. This evaluation resulted in the identification of similar problems within the Orbiter fleet, inspections that were consistently finding or not finding nonconformances, and the Orbiter zones that were continually receiving or not receiving damage.
