An ASIC is designed, using a high performance mixed analogue and digital process, to meet the requirements for knock detection in modern petrol engine ignition and engine management systems. It utilises the capabilities of mixed analogue and digital ASIC technology to provide a cost effective solution in a volume production application. Not only is the solution cost effective but it also provides an improved solution in detection performance over existing production systems. Further benefits in areas such as reliability, reduced substrate area, fewer production hardware variants, etc. are also possible.
