The authors describe a mathematical model and a set of program routines for investigating the starting regime of a synchronous superconducting main electric propulsion motor (EPM). They investigate all the major sections of the system: the generator's drive motor with the frequency control apparatus, as well as the superconducting generator and EPM with excitation control devices. They conduct an investigation of the synchronous start of a superconducting EPM. The calculations are applicable to the propulsion apparatus of an arctic gas tanker.
