The armed forces are becoming increasingly reliant on computer network for timely, reliable, accurate and secure dissemination of critical information to support the decision making processes of operational commanders. But while some of the electronic transactions are protected between base communications centers and some between host processors, few transactions are protected from the source user to the destination user process. Cryptographic processes, which provide encryption, message integrity encoding and digital signature, and trusted systems protection, which enforces system security policies and controls access by users to system information and resources, both are necessary to satisfy network security requirements.
