Discusses in the simulated training field. Visual systems are cheaper and their computer-generated images are more realistic. Features contributing to computer simulated reality, such as texturing to provide color and depth, rapid scene updates, three-dimensional views and real-time capability, are becoming commonplace. Even so, there is no standard for what constitutes realism in simulation systems. The end goal is always effective training, which ultimately dictates the system configuration. Most in the industry concur, however, that the degree of realism is still directly proportional to cost. Making a scene truly lifelike is expensive, and it may not be absolutely essential for most training scenarios.
