Italy's electronics and aerospace industries are increasingly involved in collaborative research programs across broad military and commercial sectors to permit affordable, competitive advanced technology developments. This cooperative development trend is stimulated by the government and aided by the large financial holding companies that dominate Italian industry. Teaming arrangements, mergers, formation of separate companies for joint ventures, establishment of consortia and group developments are standard practices aimed at continuing electronics growth while seeking to reverse a trade deficit.
