The analysis of a millimetre wave antenna is presented. The analysis is based on Gaussian mode theory. The considered antenna configuration consists of a quasi-optical front end and a Cassegrain reflector assembly. The latter is a tentative design for a millimetre wave sounder, which was studied for the 2nd generation Meteosat satellite of the European Space Agency. The sounder operates at frequencies between 110 and 183 GHz, and is intended to be used to study the water vapour and oxygen absorption lines in the mentioned frequency interval. Ten channels, grouped in four frequency bands, are (de)multiplexed in the front end.
