The ultraviolet communications system is depicted in an artist's concept mounted on helicopters flying in formation. The transmitter radiates horizontally. Receivers look skyward to receive light scattered into the field of view. The system is immune to electronic countermeasures jamming and extremely difficult to detect and intercept beyond 2 km. Ultraviolet communications also can be linked to and from ground forces and airborne platforms.
