The technologies required for effective electronic warfare systems are similar to those needed for the command, control and communications (C3) marketplace. On a list of technologies important to the Department of Defense (DOD), the top three are used for electronic warfare applications: very high speed integrated circuits (VHSICs) applied to all levels of electronic warfare with the applications continuing in future systems; high order language promoting standard software and advanced software techniques used by all of the armed services; and stealth technology as a major thrust to support new electronic warfare systems, eliminating the requirement for some conventional systems. Advanced applications and designs with stealth technology will promote additional uses and requirements while eliminating some threats or revealing others during operation.
