Simulation as an aid in designing and operating technical products is becoming more and more important. The automobile industry offers an extensive field of applications for such simulations. A digital microprocessor-controlled signal generator for the generation of electrical signals of an Otto engine has been developed at the Institute for Electrical Measurement Technique and Basic Electrotechnics. With this generator the design engineer is offered a compact piece of laboratory equipment, making the incorporation of a real engine unnecessary during the development and test phases. This engine signal simulator is described
