The authors describe a knowledge based architecture for the 2D identification of man-made objects in infra red line-scan (IRLS) reconnaissance imagery. Single resolution analysis of aerial imagery can result in the generation of impossibly large search spaces for knowledge based interpretation. They describe an alternative approach to clustering which has been incorporated into an image recognition system (IRS).
