The author is concerned with the use of an absorption heat pump. Design considerations are discussed and staged operation is investigated. The results show the absorption heat pump to be a promising cycle and an attractive alternative to the more common vapor compression system, particularly for those applications where waste heat at two temperature levels is available, e.g. at a higher temperature from the power source and at a lower temperature from the payload. The heat from the former can be used to power the heat pump to boost the temperature of the latter.
