The electrification of the East Coast Main Line (ECML) covers some 630 track kilometres between Hitchin and Edinburgh and includes the branch from Doncaster to Leeds. The ECML Hornsey SCADA system was installed in 1986 and it controls and monitors a total of 16 outstations including a test outstation based at Hornsey Electrical Control Room. The ECML Cathcart SCADA system is the very latest of British Rail's computer/VDU based SCADA systems. These and other SCADA systems are described.
