The Austrian Federal Railway (OBB) was the first authority outside of Germany to employ the LZB 80 signalling system for high-performance locomotives and the L72 vehicle control centres. Trial operations on the new Vienna-Salzburg high-speed railway line are to begin in 1991. The entire system of continuous automatic train control comprises line and vehicle equipment for the exchange of signals via track conductor loops. Here, the author deals with just the vehicle equipment.
