The authors describe an effort to develop an operating computer model for long-range strategic weapon delivery operations (specifically, strategic relocatable targets). The model is crew centered and permits the examination of such areas as information flow/requirements, workload, crew sizing, procedures, situational awareness, and the predicted impact of system changes on mission performance. Design and software development for the low-level-penetration and target-acquisition mission segments of a typical USAF Strategic Air Command single integrated operations plan combat sortie have been completed. The results of this effort define an analysis tool which is modular, flexible, and adaptable to the needs of a specific study. The model provides a dynamic simulation environment designed to focus on crew and mission factors in support of a wide range of analysis and design efforts.
