The application of electrical and electronic components to trucks is one of the fastest growing sectors in automotive engineering. The very nature of a wide variety of truck systems is such as to require power assistance and the control of such systems requires the sophistication of electronic controllers to meet modern specifications. In the past the applications of electric systems on trucks have been largely associated with lighting, driver information systems and auxiliary equipment control. Whilst the development of these systems has by no means reached their limit, the next 10 years will see the introduction of electronics on a far wider range of control functions on the vehicles.
