Easams have been working with RSRE on the modelling of millimetric radar sensors. The aim of the work to investigate how a scanning airborne millimetric radar sensor can pick out a stationary tank against a background of land clutter. Only the worst case of a stationary tank has been considered. Recent activities have concentrated on dual polarisation sensors. As well as generating clutter maps, Easams have also written a simulation, called MIDAS, which uses these maps to calculate the signals received by sensor. Associated software has also been written to process this calculated signal to investigate the problem of distinguishing between tanks and clutter spikes.
