An autopilot of an aircraft consists of sensor computers and actuators. An autopilot has become highly functional and complex because of technological progress and it requires a high safety and performance. In order to meet these requirements failure-proofing, namely, a fault tolerant autopilot is becoming necessary. It is a system that is tolerant to failures and is able to recover its functions by using other systems after detection, recognition and separation of damages and malfunctions. One of the methods used to realise such an autopilot is to equip it with a redundant system. The various methods are described.
