The availability of standardized simulator building blocks-such as the frequency agile signal simulator (FASS)-suggests changes in the way the simulation industry will conduct business. Unlike signal generators, FASS combines a flexible hardware platform with software to synthesize signals ranging from simple pulsed carriers to exotic agile, interpulse and intrapulse modulations (such as PRI-stagger, chirps, phase coding and antenna scans). Simulation of non ideal signals is also possible. These include multipath, transmitter compression, atmospheric dispersion and unintentional modulation on pulse. With the necessary user-supplied hardware, software and UUT interfaces, FASS integrates into such systems as: reconfigurable advanced-threat supplement for multiemitter environment simulators; laboratory stimulus for design, verification and upgrading of ESM, Elint and radar warming receivers. ECM and jamming simulator, and synthetic target/Doppler simulator for radar receiver test and development.
