The design and performance of the data acquisition and logging system of the acoustic Doppler current profiler on the NOAA ship Malcolm Baldrige are described. The accuracy of the absolute current measurements is limited by the ability to determine ship movement and orientation. Methods of processing TRANSIT satellite and Global Positioning System navigational data are evaluated. Methods of precisely determining the ADCP transducer alignment relative to the ship are described, and the results are shown.
