Swedish Telecom Radio has realised that there is only one reliable method whereby it is possible to state that an antenna is fulfilling specified requirements and that is using airborne equipment, mounted in a helicopter, to measure the radiation pattern for the antenna when it is already installed in its operating environment. The reliability of this method is dependent upon the accuracy of the field strength measurements performed by the equipment in the helicopter and the exact location of the point where the sample was taken. The system used comprises three units: helicopter, ground based navigational equipment and evaluation equipment in a headquarters.
