The problem of coping with an abundance of facts and data to analyze, manage, or use in decision-making has been to addressed primarily by finding ways to present as much data as possible to the analyst, using multiple image planes and color coding. The author suggests an alternate approach which uses display workstation technology to reduce the number of factors displayed while allowing the operator/analyst to check and validate that no significant detail is being neglected. Using currently available hardware and software, ways have been devised to fuse data to help reduce the volume and complexity of the information flow. Examples are given for cockpit management, command post operations, manufacturing process control, and geophysical analysis.
