The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) is expected to create a variety of technological spin-offs that will influence many high technology industries for decades to come. According to space and electronics industry analysts, many of the technologies that are being developed to support SDI will eventually provide a significant boost to US industry. Some of the most extraordinary SDI spin-offs have grown out of research on neutral particle beams, such as the RF quadrupole linear accelerator, laser technology, electro-optic sensors and data transmission. Experiments on laser Doppler radar have yielded an application in agriculture. Other spin-offs include supercomputers, the boost surveillance and tracking system, and the space surveillance and tracking system.
